Can You Hear Me Now?   Opportunities for Solos in the Orff Schulwerk Classroom.  Part 1.
No worries, it’s all part of the game, part of the fun!  Solos for voice, Orff instruments and recorders will be part of the active music making in these two workshops.   To improve the singing, the child needs to hear their own voice and the teacher needs to hear the child to evaluate and assist.   Solos on instruments raise the student’s level of effort, concentration and musicianship.   Recorder solos prevent bad habits and dramatically improve tone quality and improvisation.  Ages 3-9   Please bring soprano recorders.

Minimalism, Machines & Malcolm

Inspired by the effective use of minimalism in film music, this performance based session will explore interlocking patterns in music and movement. The manipulation and repetition of these patterns will be used to develop changes in mood and tension.

A Creative Approach To Contemporary Repertoire
In this session contemporary music is the source, but the treatment is pure ‘Orff’. A highly creative composition based session involving group work and improvisation. Participants are given permission to ‘bust out’ and ‘get down’ as they put their own creative spin onto the music.

Time To Play

Games and exercises with Body Percussion and sound objects stimulate coordinaton and support rhythmic-metrical security. Movement and voice lead to playing on Orff Instruments and other percussion instruments. Vocal and instrumental improvisation and reproduction complement each other.

Changing Times

Carl Orff involved the changing times often as a signature of his compositions. Using a close connection between music, dance and voice we discover mixed meter structures in different cultures and their links to the Orff Schulwerk. Improvisational skills and music thinking create ideas for compositional opportunities and possible models in the music classroom.
